Melvin Randolph Waits

Melvin Randolph Waits, age 85, of Adgateville, died Sunday, Jan. 11, 2015, at The Retreat Nursing Home.

Randolph Waits was born and raised in Adgateville before moving to Monticello with his parents over 30 years ago. His last few years were spent at The Retreat Nursing Home.

Growing up, Randolph attended Adgateville Baptist Church. He helped take care of his parents and farmed with his father in his younger years.

Randolph was happiest talking to people whether it be on the square at Mr. Luke’s; or especially at Food Pride and Ingles. He always knew all the gossip and news. It was not hard to spot him around town in his beloved 1965 Blue Galaxy.

One of his favorite things to do was ride with Dr. Corbitt Kelly to Fresh Air Bar-B-Que. They would ride all over Jasper County and Randolph always had plenty of stories to talk about while growing up in this county.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin R. Waits and Thelma Carey Waits; and sisters, Nellie Waits Bowden and Betty Waits Tillman.

He is survived by his sisters and brother-in-law, Virginia Waits Wynens of Hillsboro, and Jerry Ann and Nelson Padgett of Macon; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2015, at 3 p.m. at Hebron Cemetery in Monticello. Pastor Jeff Clegg will officiate.

Serving as pallbearers will be Jimmy Bowden, Preston Wynens, Chuck McElheney, Neal Tillman, and special friend, J. Corbitt Kelly.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2015, from 2 until 3 p.m., at Jordan Funeral Home.

The family suggests in lieu of flowers donations be made to The Retreat Nursing Home, 898 College Street, Monticello, GA 31064; or Abbey Hospice, 215 Azalea Court, Social Circle, GA 30025.

The family would like to thank Dr. Corbitt Kelly for taking time out of his busy schedule to make Randolph feel special. Also, thanks to The Retreat Nursing Home and Jasper Memorial Hospital staff for all the love and care through the last years.

Jordan Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. For more information, visit its website at www.jordanfuneralhome monticello.com.
