Tie-Breaker Decides Contest Winner

JUSTIN CARNES DQ EMPLOYEE PRESENTS PRIZE TO WINNER GARRETT KIRKSEY

Last week’s football contest proved a bit tough…even though some players were guaranteed one right pick.

Those who turned in their entry on Friday could have correctly guessed that New Orleans would beat Carolina as that game was played Thursday night. Oops, sorry.

But, it turns out the best anyone did was get 12 right, and Garrett Kirksey was one of eight who correctly guessed the winners in as many as 12 games listed. And, Garrett guessed 48 points would be scored in Monticello’s 35-12 loss to Lamar County.

For his efforts, young Mr. Kirksey picked up a $25 prize from Justin Carnes at the Dairy Queen, sponsor of the week.

Other players who correctly picked the winners in 12 games listed, but were further off on the tie-breaker (or forgot to put a tie-breaker) included Leigh Brown, Matt Byrd, Kasey Hall, Thomas Deraney, Stephine Fraser, Taylor Fields, and Janet Davis.

They will each have their names added to the grand prize honor roll for a premium ticket package to the Chick-Fil-A/Peach Bowl in Atlanta on New Year’s Eve.

This week, football prognosticators have another chance at a $25 prize and to be featured on the front page of The Monticello News. Contest is on page 9. Sponsor of the week is Larry’s Four-Way.

Remember, anyone can play; you don’t have to have any particular expertise. Just guess the winners of the games listed, write legibly, and turn your entry into The Monticello News no later than 5 p.m. tomorrow, Nov. 7. Entries may be turned in to the office at 237 West Washington Street or faxed to 706-468-6576.
