Wanted: Local Artists, Authors, & Community Exhibitors!

An extra added feature for the 48th Annual Deer Festival will be the use of the empty buildings on the Square. The idea is to open the buildings for the festival and highlight local artisans and organizations that provide services to our community.

This is how it will work: We have designated a ‘theme’ for each of the buildings and are compiling a list of participants we think would be appropriate ‘tenants’ for the day.

Building #1 – Theme “Expo”

This building is owned by Robert Jordan and is located on South Warren Street. The suggested ‘tenants’ for the day would include: Smokey The Bear with the US Forestry Service; a Charlie Elliot Wildlife Center display; a Taxidermist; Southern Crescent Technical School, etc.

Building #2 – Theme “Community”

This building is owned by Joe Gasses and is located on West Washington Street. The potential ‘tenants’ in this building would include The Sheriff’s Department; The American Legion; Piedmont Academy; The Senior Center; Jasper County Recreation Department, etc.

Building #3 – Theme “Artists and Authors”

This building is owned by Dot Strother/Gretchen Pruett and is located on the Square at the south end of Forsyth Street.

The ‘tenants for the day” we’d like to see occupy this building would be our local artists and authors who would display and sell their work. It’s beautiful inside and has many separated rooms and space to display art.

Building #4 – Theme “Ye Olde Ice Cream Shoppe”

This building is currently being offered by Southern Edge Realty and is located on the corner of Forsyth and East Greene Street. One of the ‘tenants’ for the day would include use of the wonderful fountain and will sell homemade ice cream and sodas. There is space for other ‘tenants’ who will be identified later.

Each of the buildings will have use of water and electricity just for the day of the festival and will have to register with the Downtown Events Coordinator, Sage Edwards to determine eligibility and suggested fee to participate. Please contact us if you’re interested.
