Getting Back to Nature

Phillip Jordan of Monticello has completed his “trip of a lifetime,” canoeing solo down the Ocmulgee River. Mr. Jordan put in at the Spring Street Bridge in Macon (above), on October 1, and paddled 329 miles in 11 days, arriving at the Two-Way Fish Camp and Marina in Darien on October 11. The alligator at right is one of the 43 alligators seen and photographed by Mr. Jordan along the way. Mr. Jordan took more than 3,000 photos on his journey. Mr. Jordan makes his living running Jordan Funeral Home, but his hobby is nature photography.

Many of his photos can be seen at Jordan Funeral Home, 246 Hillsboro Street, Monticello, and several have been featured in The Monticello News. Mr. Jordan celebrated his 63rd birthday while on his journey. His wife, Miriam, expressed her pleasure at his safe arrival at his destination.
