Edith Lillian Waits Jones
Edith Lillian Waits Jones, 88, passed away Sunday, Oct. 5.
Edith was born in Putnam County on October 21, 1925 to the late Joseph (Joe) and Ruth Carey Waits.
Friends and relatives remember Edith as one who loved life and always enjoyed having good clean fun. She and her older sister, Barbara had many good times dancing when they were younger. They were said to have ‘rolled back the rugs’ to make a dance floor on Saturday nights, and everyone would clear the floor to watch them dance. The ‘jitterbug’ was one of her favorites.
Much of Edith’s life was spent in Jackson. There she became a Certified Nursing Assistant, and in this profession, she cared for those in need for many years. After raising her daughters, Edith later moved to Atlanta. She continued providing caregiving services to those in need in the Atlanta area. In 1993 she became a resident of Cathedral Towers, and remained there until her death.
Edith enjoyed spending time with friends, family and acquaintances at Cathedral Towers. She was known for her love of laughter, as well as her interest in a good debate. She will be surely missed.
Survivors include Edith’s dear daughters, Patricia (Mark) Heflin of Jasper, and Kathy (Gary) Gottlieb of Marietta; a granddaughter that she cherished: Adrienne Homansky and one great-grandson, Jacob Homansky; two sisters, Madelyn Bryans of Madison, and Emily (Haywood) Stringfellow of Lithia Springs; three brothers, Carl (Joanne) Waits and Jimmy Waits of Jackson, and Gene (Jeannette) Waits of Fayetteville.
Two sisters preceded Edith in death, Barbara James of Jackson, and Shirley Waits of Atlanta. Two brothers also preceded Edith in death, Guy and Hugh Waits of Monticello.
A memorial service celebrating Edith Jones’ life was held on Saturday, Oct. 11 at Cathedral Towers on Peachtree Street in Atlanta. Rev. Mary Howard Ashhurst officiated.
