Thefts Are Reported

Several thefts were reported to the Jasper County Sheriff’s office in the last week. A property owner in the north end of the county reported the theft of several weapons from his home.

Three other thefts were reported of small items. Two residents reported having financial cards stolen, and one had a phone case taken. Lastly, and most unusually, one resident reported his mailbox had been taken.

Other than that deputies were busy with numerous calls, including two assaults, two crowd disbursements, 10 accidents, and a domestic call. They also reported 56 incidents of stopping suspicious person or vehicle. All in all they responded to 317 calls for service in the last week, with more than a third being checking location.

Persons booked into the Jasper County Detention Center in the last week, and their charges, included:

•Justin Cooper Singletary, 28, Monticello—entering an auto, duty upon striking unattended vehicle and probation violation.

•Quan Dameon Middlebrooks, 24, Monticello—inmate possession of prohibited items without consent.

•Michael William Freeman, 44, Covington—Jasper County Superior Court failure to appear (2 counts).

•Heidi Christine Behrendsen, 23, Madison—probation violation.

•Steven Jesse Restrepo, 27, Deep Step—hold for warrant in Meriwether Co.

•Allen Michael Humphries, 23, Mansfield—probation violation.

•Jeffery Lamar Cantrell, Jr., 25, Newborn—failure to comply with court order.

•Jay Cecil Montgomery, 45, Covington—driving while license suspended or revoked and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

•William Lee Clifton, Sr., 51, Monticell—criminal damage to property in the second degree and criminal trespass.

•Michael Thomas Hinton, 22, Monticello—possession of Schedule IV controlled substance, possession of marijuana less than 1 oz., session of drug related objects, drugs not in original container, and possession of Schedule II controlled substance.
