Man Is Killed in Accident

Kevin Arlie Ledford, 18, of Homer, died Friday, Oct. 10, in Jasper County as a result of an auto accident. Mr. Ledford was traveling south on Bethel Church Road in a 2002 Ford Ranger and failed to stop at the stop sign at Hwy. 212. Brantley Steger of Covington was traveling west on Hwy. 212, when Mr. Ledford ran the stop sign and his truck hit the 2005 Chevrolet Tahoe driven by Mr. Steger. Mr. Ledford’s truck traveled through the intersection and rotated before coming to rest on the shoulder of the road at the intersection. Mr. Ledford died at the scene. Traffic was stopped for some time, then rerouted along Bethel Church Road while Georgia State Patrol Trooper Bailey and Jasper County Coroner Billy Norris worked the accident. Several Jasper County deputies were on scene to help with traffic. Emergency officials responded to another accident in the county right after this one Friday evening, and there were several more during the week. On Tuesday morning there was a four-car pile-up in front of Jasper County High School as students were traveling the rain-slicked highway and preparing to turn into the student parking area. No one was injured, and only one vehicle as undriveable.
