Evon Carlton “Mac” McLaurin

Evon Carlton “Mac” McLaurin, 68, of Monticello, died Saturday, Sept. 20, 2014, at the Medical Center of Central Georgia in Macon.

Mac McLaurin was born in Waycross to the late E. B. McLaurin and Rosa Lee Jones McLaurin. He lived in Monroe County before moving to Monticello in 1996. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved to hunt, fish, and for a number of years, entered bass tournaments. Before retirement, he worked for AT&T, and retired from Bell South.

He mostly enjoyed spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren. He worked alongside his sons and adored his wife, Lyn.

He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Lyn Caudle McLaurin of Monticello; sons and daughters-in-law, Erik and Michelle McLaurin of Monticello, and Brian and Ami McLaurin of Monticello; grandchildren, Jena McLaurin, Micah McLaurin, Conor McLaurin, and Aidan McLaurin; sisters, Betty Rodgers of Decatur, and Linda Arthur of Jekyll Island; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, Sept. 28 at 4 p.m., at Smithboro Baptist Church in Monticello. The family members will officiate.

The family suggests in lieu of flowers donations be made to Smithboro Baptist Church, 314 Smithboro Road, Monticello, Georgia 31064.
