48th Deer Festival Is November 1
The 48th annual Jasper County Deer Festival will be held Saturday, Nov. 1, with the Fun Run beginning at 7:30 a.m., a 5K race at 8 a.m., and vendors setting up and selling their wares beginning at 9 a.m.
Tiana Griggs, Miss Georgia and 2nd runner-up for Miss USA will be the grand marshal of the 2 p.m. parade. Other features of the parade will be the Deer Festival Court which will be chosen at a pageant on Sunday, Oct. 26 at Jasper County High School.
Little Miss Fawn contestants should be 3, 4, or 5 years old, and Deer Festival court ladies are high school juniors and seniors. Applications for the pageant are available now at the schools and from the Chamber of Commerce office on the Square or from its website, www.jaspercountycoc.com or its Facebook page.
Parade applications are also now available and everyone is encouraged to take part.
In addition, signing up to run in one of the races or to be a vendor at the festival is as easy as visiting the website and submitting your application. Or, for those who prefer, visit the COC office in person or call 706-468-8994.
Entertainment will be provided throughout the day, and numerous raffles are planned. The COC will give away a Browning XBolt rifle, in addition to other groups planning giveaways.
The Monticello Kiwanis Club will also sponsor the venison cookoff, as usual. So all you cooks out there start preparing for the tough competition on November 1.
