Elementary Cougars Win
The Piedmont Academy elementary school football team posted a 28-0 win against Creekside Christian Academy in McDonough last week.
“The kids really worked hard and needed the confidence boost after the loss in the previous week’s game,” said coach Justin Owens.
Ryan Holder scored on the first play offensively for the Cougars on a 54-yard run. Holder later added a 40-yard touchdown run.
David Bishop also scored a touchdown in the first half on a 43-yard run after he scooped up a fumbled snap.
The offense continued to gain yardage in the second half with Holder scoring again from 52 yards out.
“The defense also played lights out football and really came alive in this game,” said Owens.
Holder, Mark Hicks and Russ Hagwood each had multiple tackles for loss in the game.
Another defensive standout was first-year player Tanner Beam. The fourth grade defensive end had 11 total tackles, seven for negative yards as well as a quarterback sack.
“The team really improved in our second week, especially on the defensive side of the football,” Owens said. “We still have some work to do in smoothing out the offense, but the boys are really working together well and having a lot of fun.”
