Tie-Breaker Determines Contest Winner

The second week of The Monticello News football contest proved a little tougher than week one with only two players getting as many as 12 right to land on the honor roll. Of those two, Bobby Bailey was closer on the tie-breaker to claim a $25 prize from Northwestern Mutual Insurance Company.
Mr. Bailey collected his $25 prize from Kelly Fox, local representative. Mr. Bailey’s tie-breaker guess was 51, five off on Piedmont Academy’s 56-0 win over Griffin Christian.
Mr. Bailey said it is a stroke of luck that he won, that he doesn’t know anything about football. He said he listens to his co-workers and goes on the computer and looks at stats. He has been playing the contest “forever,” and also won one time last year.

John Braden also correctly guessed the winner of 12 games listed, but he guessed 50 on the tie-breaker, losing by one point to Mr. Bailey.
And, some people didn’t read the rules. Only one entry per person is allowed. If a person enters more than once, all entries are disqualified. Please follow the rules, and please write legibly.
Of the 150+ entries, only 15 got as many as 11 right. Every time a player correctly guesses the winner in 12 or more games listed in that week’s paper, his or her name is added to the grand prize honor roll.
At the end of the contest, all the names will be put in a container, and those with multiple entries get their names in each time they made the honor roll. One name is drawn for the grand prize of four tickets to the Chick-fil-A/Peach Bowl in Atlanta.
Now that the Chick-Fil-A Bowl is part of the college bowl playoff system, it is an even bigger game than in the past.
No special skill is required to play; there are surprises every week. So, novice or experienced player, take a look at the games and predict who the winner will be. Then, enter a tie-breaker score (total points scored in the game) in the box and submit your entry.
They may be faxed to 706-468-6576 or brought in person to The News office, 237 West Washington St., Monticello. We must receive each entry by 5 p.m. on Friday for it to be graded.
