James Malcolm Cole Jr.
James Malcolm Cole Jr. of Macon, husband of 51 years to Ruth Pannell Cole, entered into rest Tuesday, July 22, 2014, at Pine Point Hospice in Macon.
Funeral services were held Friday, July 25, at Burns Memorial United Methodist Church, Augusta, Ga., with Dr. Benny Tate officiating.
Private interment was held at Mill Creek Baptist Church in Gibson, Ga.
Malcolm, a native of Gibson, lived for many years in Augusta before moving to Forsyth to be near his family. He was a member of the Forsyth United Methodist Church. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and his love of the outdoors was only equaled by his passion for the game of baseball.
He was a member of the New York Giants baseball organization before being called to active service in the U. S. Army. He retired from International Paper in 1999 after 37 years of service.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James Malcolm Cole Sr. and Mamie Kitchens Cole; and by his brother, Louie Cole.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, James “Jim” Malcolm Cole III and his wife, Gaylyn; and his grandchildren, Caroline Pannell Cole and Robert Lawson Cole, all of Forsyth; his sister Arlene (Jack) Mitchell, of San Antonio, Texas; and his brothers, Hoyt (Dotsie) Cole and Scotty (Jesse) Cole, both of Gibson, Ga.
Pallbearers were Mike Crawford, Tommy Williams, Garrett Fulcher, Ken Williams, J.C. Walden, Gary Anderson, Jimmy Adams, and Rick Wright. Honorary pallbearers were Jimmy Lawson and Paul Jossey.
The family would like to express their appreciation to his dedicated caregivers, Angela Shannon, Shayla Furlow, Lue Barkley, Sherri Alford, and Wendy Calloway. They would also like to offer special thanks to all of the staff at Pine Point Hospice of Central Georgia.
