Thomas Sidney Jones

Thomas Sidney Jones, 88, passed away at his home in Thomasville, Ga., on Friday, July 25, 2014.

Mr. Jones was born on January 6, 1926, the son of Boyd Lane and Blanche Jenkins Jones of Worth County, Ga. He married Sally Frances Strickland of Moultrie in 1946.

An astute businessman, he owned and operated construction, farming, and farm-related businesses. Throughout his life, Mr. Jones was best known for his steadfast faith in God, his devotion to the church, and his love for family and friends.

He graduated from Moultrie High School in 1944 and served in the United States Army 989 Field Artillery Battalion in Central Europe during World War II. In 1946, following his honorable discharge from military service, he returned to Moultrie and married his sweetheart Frances. He completed VA school and owned construction businesses for more than 20 years. In 1971, Mr. Jones established Jones Tractor Company and operated that business with his sons until his retirement in 2001.

Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, Tom and Rita Jones of Cairo, Ga., Lije and Tracey Jones of Shady Dale, Kim and Angela Jones of Monticello, Fla., and Earl and Jackie Jones of Tallahassee, Fla.; daughter and son-in-law Marta and Jerry Turner of Thomasville; grandchildren Betty Jones Johnson, Didi Jones Pratz, Sally Jones McGregor, Lane Jones, Hannah Jones Turner, Clayton Jones, Wesley Jones, Jason Jones, Melissa Jones West, Thomas Jones, and Stephen Jones; and 18 great-grandchildren.

Also surviving are his brother and sister-in-law Lynn and Barbara Jones of Funston, sister, Joy Jones Cone of Brunswick, and sister-in-law Marjorie Coffee of Thomasville, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his wife Frances, brother Boyd Jones, sisters Mildred Hobbs, Nell Striplin, and Nan Coffee.

A service honoring Mr. Jones’ life was held Monday, July 28, at First Baptist Church, 210 North Broad Street, Thomasville.

Graveside services followed at Laurel Hill Cemetery in Thomasville.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations honoring Mr. Jones be made to the Hearing Impaired Ministry at First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 2790, Thomasville, GA 31799.
