David Perdue Wins Here, Statewide

David Perdue won the Republican nomination for Senator in Tuesday’s runoff election, beating Jack Kingston by a small margin, with Perdue getting 50.88 percent of the vote.

Mr. Perdue won locally too, but by a larger margin. He got 61.37 percent of the vote and Kingston got 38.63 percent of the local vote.

For U.S. Representative, Jody Hice won the nomination with 54.32 percent of the vote over Mike Collins. Locally, Collins received 52.42 percent of the vote.

Also on the Republican ballot, Michael L. “Mike” Buck beat Richard L. Woods locally, but statewide Woods won the nomination with 50.09 percent of the vote.

On the Democratic ballot, Jasper County voted much the same as the state, with Valarie D. Wilson beating Alisha Thomas Morgan for the nomination for state school superintendent.

Locally, the unofficial voter turnout was 16.47 percent, which does not include provisional ballots, according to the Probate Court which handles elections.
