Mrs. Rosa Lee Lovelace Colvard
A celebration of life for Mrs. Rosa Lee Lovelace Colvard “Big Mama” is planned for Wednesday, July 9, 2014 at 1 p.m. at Springfield Missionary Baptist Church, 837 Hillsboro Street, Monticello. Rev. Jimmy Horton, pastor, will deliver the eulogy; burial will be in South View Cemetery.
Pallbearers were to be Thomas Whidby, Roger Minter, John Wesley Carter, Tim Mullins, Ban Parham, and Bobby Norris.
Ms. Rosa Lee Lovelace Colvard, affectionately known as “Big Mama,” was born on September 21, 1938 in Monroe County, Ga., to the late Ms. Annie Bell Lovelace. She was called to her eternal resting place on July 3, 2014.
After accepting Jesus Christ as her savior at a young age, she was an active member of Springfield Baptist Church in Monticello. As a member, she served faithfully on the Senior Missionary Board, Pastor Support Group, and the Mother Board.
Rosa received her education from Monroe County School System. She was employed at Bibb Manufacturing for many years, and also opened her home to many children as a child care provider.
In her spare time, Rosa enjoyed worshipping the Lord, spending time with family, shopping, walking around town, and listening to music.
She was married to Mr. Theodore Colvard Sr., who preceded her in death. During this union, two children were born. Her daughter, Rosa Colvard Campbell, preceded her in death.
Surviving her departure with cherished memories include: a loving son, Theodore Colvard Jr. (Mildred) of Monticello; eight grandchildren, Chandra Brown (Charles) of Eatonton, Adrain Ivey (Robert) of Monroe, LeMetra Dismuke (Ricky) of Fairburn, Heather Colvard of Lawrenceville, Chester Dante’ Campbell of Monticello, Darius Colvard of Valdosta, Tyson Goolsby (Keisha) of Fort Hood, TX; and Gerard Smith (Stacy) of Jonesboro; 15 great-grandchildren; one aunt, Mrs. Maudessa Perkins of Forsyth; two nephews, Roosevelt Colvard, Jr. (Juanita) and Theodore Redding, both of Forsyth; two nieces, Lyssie Colvard and Dyssie Colvard High, both of Forsyth; special friend, Ms. Anne Digby of Monticello; dear cousin, Charlie Perkins of Forsyth; and a host of loving cousins, neighbors, and friends.
