Curtis Lee Norwood

Curtis Lee Norwood was born December 5, 1952, in Shady Dale, to the late Willie Frank Norwood, Sr., and Emma Florine Ross. He died April 25, 2014.

A celebration of life was held April 30 at Shady Grove Baptist Church in Shady Dale. Rev. Joseph McKibbon is pastor; Willie Frank Norwood was eulogist.

Curtis was educated in the Jasper County school system. He was a member of Shady Grove Baptist Church and was a dedicated employee of Georgia Pacific Plywood, the Feldspar Corporation and later employed with the Jasper County transportation department.

On May 25, 1975, he married Claudette Epps and from this union three children were born. They were devoted to each other for 38 years of marriage before his homegoing.

He was a hard worker who loved his family and was always there to help others. He was a person of many trades that enjoyed working on cars, watching television, cooking on the grill, being around others and spending time with his grandchildren.

He was a quiet and reserved man that stood firm behind his beliefs and enjoyed life to the fullest.

Curtis leaves to cherish in his memories, his wife, Claudette; children, Patrick Norwood (Tamika) of Gray, Phenicia Norwood and Ryan Norwood, both of Monticello; mother, Emma Florine Ross of Shady Dale; five brothers, Tommy James Kelly (Louvenia) of Covington, Willie Frank Norwood, Jr. (Phyllis) of Shady Dale; Harold Norwood (Rebecca), also of Shady Dale, Lester Norwood of Covington and Donald Ross (Patricia) of Milledgeville.

Also, two sisters, Nyokia Barnes of Monticello and Charlene Avery (Love) of Covington; six grandchildren, Kenshaw Roberson, Kayla Davis, Shayla Simmons, Lyric Norwood, Patrickia Norwood and Kaiden Jenkins; mother-in-law Bessie Epps of Monticello; brothers-in-law, Arthur Epps Jr. (Linda) of Macon; Fredrick Epps (Joanne) of Porterdale, and Shawn Epps (Crystal) of Monticello; aunt, Lena Griggs of Covington; uncle, Clifford Thurman (Susie) of Atlanta, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Smith and Sons Funeral Home, Monticello, is in charge of arrangements.
