‘Cane Girl Tracksters Are Second in Region

The Monticello High School Lady ‘Canes track team finished second at the Region 4AA Track Championship held in Barnesville last week.

Seven Lady Canes qualified for state level competition which will be held May 1-3 in Jefferson for the boys’ competition and May 8-10 in Albany for the girl’s competition.

Results from the region meet include:

Tierra Whitlock

1st Place – 400m Relay, High Jump, 100m Hurdles, 300m Hurdles

2nd Place – 1600m Relay

Miss Whitlock was also awarded the High Point Trophy for scoring 34.5 points during the region track meet.

2nd Place – 1600m Relay

3rd Place – 100m Dash and 200m Dash

The Hurricane boys team will send two competitors, Brandon Stewart and Jay Johnson, to the state sectionals.

Other competitors that placed include Quincy Standifer in the 400m Run and 800m Run; Kelly Jarmillio in the 3200m Run; Denzel Sands in the 1600m Run; Garrison Williams in the Shot Put; Jamaric Bonner in the Shot Put and Discus; and Austin Blankenship in Discus.

Terrence Brown, J.Johnson, Q. Standifer and John Davis finished 7th in the 400m Relay and Xavier Gude, B. Stewart, T. Brown and J. Davis finished 6th in the 1600m Relay.
