Opening Day at Rec. Dept. Is Success

Opening Day at the Jasper County Recreation Department was a big success.
“We had a huge turnout of people coming out to support our kids,” said Jay McMichael, director. “We really want to thank all of our volunteers that helped make our Opening Day possible.”
The day began with the presentation of colors by the American Legion Post 110 color guard, and an invocation by Rev. Preston Campbell from Maddox Chapel Baptist Church in Hillsboro.
Then, play ball was heard, and action took place around the complex. Results were as follows:

Red Sox 8 vs. Orioles 9;
Yankees 8 vs. Twins 15;
D-backs 9 vs. Angels 12;
Marlins 12 vs. Pirates 14;
Athletics 15 vs. Braves 15.
7-8 Softball
Royals 0 vs. Angels 11;
Mets 6 vs. Braves 3.
7-8 Baseball
Braves 11 vs. Reds 2;
Dodgers 9 vs. Athletics 5.
9-10 Softball
Athletics 1 vs. Indians 6;
Nationals 2 vs. D-backs 7.

Braves 1 vs. Cardinals 15;
D-backs 11 vs. Giants 8.
11-12 Softball
Phillies 12 vs. Braves 9.

In addition, sign-ups are still under way for 13-17 year old baseball, and coaches are needed. The deadline to sign up is Friday, May 2. Also, sign ups are still under way for 18 to adult baseball. Deadline to sign up is Friday, May 23. All fees are $25.
