Coroner Resigns
Jasper County Coroner Michelle Haddock has resigned.
Under Georgia code, the county probate judge can appoint a replacement for coroner, a part-time, elected position, said Probate Judge Linda Keller upon researching how to handle the resignation.
Currently, deputy coroner Maritsa Bell will handle any cases that arise.
Judge Keller is placing an ad in the newspaper for any interested person to respond if they would like to serve as coroner. Judge Keller will appoint someone to complete the remainder of Mrs. Haddock’s term which runs through 2016.
The coroner position receives a salary of $200 a month, and is paid for work done. Any time the coroner must respond to a death, she or he is paid for the response. She or he is also responsible for transporting remains to the crime lab and coordinating crime lab reports with the family members and/or funeral homes.
For more information, see the ad elsewhere in today’s paper.
