Man Sentenced To Five Years To Serve

Jason Lavartist Byrd appeared in Superior Court Tuesday, with Judge Hugh V. Wingfield, III, presiding, where he pled guilty to the charge of possession of marijuana with intent to distribute.

Mr. Byrd was sentenced to 10 years with five to serve in confinement, with credit for time served since October 2, 2013. The remainder of the sentence can be served on probation, and he is to pay fines and fees of $3,605.

Other cases processed by the court during this session include the following.

•Raymond Edward Christian pled guilty to driving while a habitual violator, giving false information to a law enforcement officer, operation of unregistered vehicle, affixing of plate to conceal or misrepresent identity and open container. Mr. Christian was sentenced five years to be served on probation and fines and fees of $2,410.

•Christian Scott Gilbreath pled guilty to criminal trespass, fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer, obstruction of an officer, reckless driving, improper horn, failure to stop at stop sign and no proof of insurance. Mr. Gilbreath was sentenced to four years with the first 30 days to be served in the county jail and the remainder on probation, to serve 100 hours of community service and to pay $2,600 in fines and fees.

•Teresa Schwartz, Robert Allen Robinson, Dustin Lee Raynor, Terry Durand Brown and Chad Ervin Lowery all failed to appear to answer charges, and bench warrants were issued for their arrest.

•Kandy Fite, who was on probation for the charge of theft by shoplifting in February of 2014, was found to have violated her probation via the new charges of criminal trespass and theft by taking. Ms. Fite was sentenced to serve 60 days in the county jail with credit for time served and upon release terminate the case.

Eight other cases were continued and nine individuals plead not-guilty to various charges
