Cougars Sweep Central Fellowship

ZACH BEGGS MAKES PLAY

The Piedmont Academy varsity baseball team swept visiting Central Fellowship Saturday.

The Cougars recorded a 12-2 win in five innings in the opener before taking a 7-2 win in the second half of the doubleheader.

Luke Andrews earned the win in the opener working 3.1 innings before Mac Brittain closed the game out.

At the plate, Mack Brady was 1-for-3 with two RBI while Josh Williams finished 2-for-2 with two runs batted in. Malcom Tyler also had a productive game going 2-for-2 with two runs and two RBI.

Alan Powell, Zack Wilson, Tyler Mills and Mac Brittain also drove in runs.

Zach Beggs went the distance in the second game to earn the win with seven strikeouts. He scattered five hits and did not allow an earned run.

Piedmont scored six runs in the fifth inning to take control of what had been a close contest. Michael Edwards was 2-for-2 offensively with two runs while Tyler finished 1-for-3 with an RBI and run scored. Beggs helped his own cause by going 1-for-4 with a run and RBI. Noah Quick also finished 1-for-4 with an RBI.

Prior to Saturday’s doubleheader, the Cougars defeated the Middle Georgia Patriots 10-0 on Thursday. Mike Davis earned the win working all five innings with six strikeouts.

Andrews had a monster day at the plate going 2-for-4 with a homerun, two runs scored and four RBI. Beggs was 3-for-4 with a run and RBI. Hunter Whiting was 1-for-1 with a run and Quick was 1-for-2 with a run. Tyler also scored two runs in the win.

Monday’s scheduled game against John Milledge was rained out. Field conditions remained unsuitable for play Tuesday.

Piedmont, which has now won five games in a row, will host Brandon Hall Friday at 4:30 p.m. for the first region game of the season for the Cougars.

Piedmont’s Middle School baseball team will host Central Fellowship today, March 20, at 4:30 p.m. and Covenant Saturday, at 11 a.m.
