Accounts Opened for Les Steele

LES STEELE

Les Steele, a well-known local musician is hospitalized at the Medical Center of Central Georgia in Macon after complication from an automobile accident last month.

Mr. Steele has been treated for numerous health issues, and doctors recently amputated his legs. He faces much physical therapy and possibly more surgeries in the future.

As people have visited, Mr. Steele has expressed concern about his hospital, doctor and pharmacy bills.

So, several people have gotten together and set up accounts at both the Bank of Monticello and Hamilton State Bank where friends of Mr. Steele can make donations to help him in his recuperation.

Mr. Steele is the former band director at Jasper County High School, and most recently worked at Georgia Military College.

He is well-known as a one man band who will help whenever asked. He plays at the Market on the Square many Saturdays in the summer, both by himself or with his band, the Yellow River Boys.

He has played for Flag Day, Easter sunrise services, pancake breakfasts, talent shows, festivals and many special occasions in Monticello and Jasper County many times. He visits all the area nursing homes monthly and cheers the residents with his music.

He and former choral teacher Lisa Kelly were the musicians behind the Kiwanis Talent Show for many years, and he has stayed on single-handedly since Mrs. Kelly has not been able to assist. This year’s talent show will be held without him this Saturday.

Because of all he has given to Monticello and Jasper County, friends want to help him out, and know that others would be interested. So, the accounts have been opened, and anyone can make a deposit at either bank, of any amount, large or small, to help Mr. Steele have peace of mind.

Donations may be made in person or mailed to Bank of Monticello, P. O. Box 29, Monticello, GA 31064, or Hamilton State Bank, Monticello Branch, P. O. Box 31, Monticello, GA 31064.
