Gail Walker Folkerts

Gail Walker Folkerts, 68, of Augusta, died Saturday, Feb. 22, 2014, at her son’s residence in Covington with her loving family by her side.

Mrs. Folkerts was born in Emory, to the late Chester Woodrow Walker and Virginia Catherine Vaughn Walker. A lifelong Georgia resident, she lived in Augusta for a number of years. She was a member of Trinity on the Hill Methodist Church in Augusta, and a member of the Monticello Presbyterian Church when she lived in the area.

Before retirement, she was a well-known and respected district coordinator for Sherwin Williams in Atlanta, and a former director at Kindercare.

Mrs. Folkerts volunteered in fund raisers for breast cancer and at the Lydia Project, which provides free services to women facing any type of cancer anywhere in the world. While a patient herself, Mrs. Folkets served as the cancer ward volunteer at the University Hospital in Augusta. She was an active member of Tucker Civic Association and Tucker PTA; and was active in the local Women’s Club. She also took pride in serving on the Tucker circle council.

Mrs. Folkerts was a happy, positive person, giving her 100 percent in everything she accomplished. She was a fantastic organizer and liked to spend time beautifying her surroundings in both her professional and personal life. She enjoyed gardening and interior decorating, working tirelessly alongside her husband, Mike.

She loved her country and cared about her community, wherever she lived. Whatever else she was involved with, her first priority was spending time with her family and friends; especially her eight grandchildren. She was known far and wide for making the best sweet tea!

Mrs. Folkerts stated before passing that she wouldn’t have changed her life…she had no regrets.

Survivors include her loving husband of 43 years, Michael Folkerts, Sr. of Augusta; children and spouses, Michael, Jr. and Jenny Folkerts of Covington, Aprille and William Glover of Lavardin, France, Meribeth and Nathan Leach of Gorham, ME, and Jennifer and Derek Backer of Charleston, SC; grandchildren, Thomas “T.J.” Leach, Shelby Leach, Brianna Folkerts, Jackson Folkerts, Bryson Folkerts, Tyler Armand, and Logan Armand.
