4-H Archery Team Competes
Twelve members of the Jasper County 4-H archery team competed at the sixth annual State Indoor 4-H Archery Challenge on Saturday, Feb. 22 at the Georgia National Fairgrounds in Perry.
There were 529 youth participants from across Georgia making it the largest 4-H indoor shoot Georgia has hosted to date.
All of the local team members had a great showing at their first of two state 4-H matches of the season. Abby Whittle was the top scorer from Jasper County in the Cloverleaf Compound division with her score of 257. Chloe Garrison had the high score on our Cloverleaf Novice team with 234.
The high scorer on the Jasper County Junior Compound team was Ethan Johnson with his score of 274.
The Cloverleaf Novice team was represented on Saturday by Chloe Garrison, Bailey Jenkins, and Claire Taylor. Shooters on the Cloverleaf Compound team who competed include Austin Allen, Michael Clendenin, Haleigh Hammonds, and Abby Whittle.
The Junior Compound team was represented by Ansley Atkinson, Avery Jacobs, Ethan Johnson, Dalton Richardson, and Anna Whittle.
The Jasper County team is continuing to practice as they prepare for their next contest–the state match that will be held at Rock Eagle 4-H Center on Saturday, May 3. They are under the direction of coaches Susann Whittle, Scott Whittle, Gretchen Pruett, Greg Atkinson, Cheryl Jacobs, and Scott Ford.
This group of volunteers give so much of their time to the 4-H’ers as they develop and practice their skills on Monday evenings and on optional additional practice days each week. It is through their willingness to give back and share their talents that Jasper County is able to offer this competitive sport to our 4-H club members locally.
4-H is a unit of the University of Georgia College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences and Cooperative Extension. 4-H provides a forum for hands-on learning experiences and youth development opportunities for young people ages nine to 19.
