Grand Jury Returns True Bills on Seven

A Jasper County Grand Jury convened Monday, Feb. 10, and heard evidence which caused them to issue True Bills of Indictment on seven individuals.

An indictment by a Grand Jury is not an indication of guilt or innocence, but rather that sufficient evidence was presented to warrant taking the case to trial, unless a plea bargain is negotiated prior to a trial date.

The individuals who were indicted and the charges against them are as follows:

•Jason Lavartist Byrd—possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of marijuana and three counts of sale of a schedule II controlled substance.

•Chad E. Lowery—possession of a schedule II controlled substance with intent to distribute, possession of a schedule III controlled substance with intent to distribute, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, possession of marijuana less than one ounce and two counts of driving under the influence (less safe-drugs).

•Joshua Shane Chafin—trafficking in methamphetamine.

•Timothy Lynwood, Jr.—burglary in the first degree.

•Kevin Anthony Guitierrez—terroristic threats.

•Jason Matthew Ratzel—two felony counts of obstruction of an officer, simple battery/family violence, simple assault/family violence and criminal trespass.
