EMC Prepares for Winter Storms

Central Georgia EMC is preparing for the predicted winter storms for this week. CGEMC personnel are on call to address power outages caused by the impending storms.

CGEMC works hard to keep the power on for our members however, weather conditions or unusual circumstances can impact your electric service. CGEMC recommends that each member have a Severe Weather Survival Kit. The items that should be included in your kit are:

•Flashlight with fresh batteries

•Candles and holders

•Matches

•Bottled Water for drinking, at least a gallon per person per day

•Non-perishable food

•Manual Can Opener

•Paper Plates and Plastic Utensils

•Radio with Fresh Batteries and NOAA weather radio

•Wind-up or battery operated clock

•Blankets / Pillows, etc.

•Clothing – seasonal, rain gear, sturdy shoes

•Medical supplies – first aid kit, medicines, prescription drugs

•Special Items – for infants and the elderly

•Toiletries – hygiene items

•Moisture wipes

•Extra batteries (for flashlight and radios)

•Cash – (Banks and ATMs may not be open or available for extended periods.)

CGEMC also suggests to customers who have well water, to fill their bathtubs with water that can be used for flushing commodes.

Electrical surges may also take place during and after storms; unplugging electrical equipment may help prevent damage to your electronic equipment.
