Chester Marion Smith, Jr.

Chester Marion Smith, Jr., died on Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2013 at his estate in Hampton.

Mr. Smith was born September 23, 1936 in Monticello, to the late Chester Marion Smith, Sr. and Annastasia Tyler Smith. After graduating from The Berry School in 1955, he attended Southern Polytechnic State University where he received a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering and followed with a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science from Georgia Institute of Technology.

In 1967, he founded Metro Engineering & Surveying Co., Inc. in Atlanta, where he remained an essential part of the organization until his death. Throughout his life, he achieved numerous certifications including Professional Registered Land Surveyor (Georgia, Alabama, and Tennessee), Certified Photogrammetrist, and Commercial Pilot.

Survivors include his wife, Sue Frye-Smith; his grandson, Joshua Mark Smith of Atlanta; his son, Charles Bradford Smith of Chicago; and step-daughters, Debbie Hardy Smith of Marietta and Charlcey Frye of Calhoun.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, Jan. 18, 2014 at 2 p.m. at the Smith estate. Condolences may be submitted on-line at www.scotward.com.
