One Player Gets 12 Right

Julie Thomas was the only player who correctly guessed the winners of 12 out of 15 games listed in last week’s The Monticello News football contest.
Mrs. Thomas received her $25 prize from Dr. Jameson Estes at Venture Medical Center, this week’s sponsor.
Typically, Dr. Shannon Barton, football fan extraordinaire, presents the prize, but she was vacationing this week. Dr. Estes has plenty of football in him, though…his father was a high school football coach and still helps out sometimes.
Mrs. Thomas did exceptionally well where others did not at guessing the outcomes of the NFL games, where upsets and unpredictability make this contest more difficult. A majority of the contest players were correct in guessing Baltimore’s win over the N.Y. Jets but the other four match-ups were missed by most.
Only four players got as many as 11 right in last week’s contest. They were Nicole Bailey, whose father won earlier this year; Willy Roberts, Tyler Cooper and David Leach. All other players got 10 or less correct.
There was one oddity this week as all contest players missed that the Minnesota Vikings vs. the Green Bay Packers game would end in a 26-26 tie. This is an NFL rule that once the regular 60 minute game is over and there is a tied score, there will then be a 15 minute overtime. Neither team scored during the overtime resulting in a tie score at the conclusion of the game.
Therefore, no one correctly guessed the winner of that game.
There are only two weeks left to win a weekly prize and qualify for the grand prize. Anyone with 12 or more correct picks each week has his or her names added to the Honor Roll on the contest page, and a winner for Chick-fil-a Bowl tickets will be drawn at The News in the coming weeks.
