Recreation Dept. Encourages Participation
The Jasper County Recreation Department is proud to remind families that young athletes are welcome and encouraged to participate in both travel ball and recreational sports leagues. Our goal is to support well-rounded athletic development and provide flexible opportunities for youth of all skill levels.
“There’s a common misconception that kids have to choose between travel teams and local rec leagues,” said Keldrick Davis, Director of Jasper County Recreation Department. “The truth is, we welcome players of all experience levels — and playing both can enhance a child’s growth, teamwork, and love of the game.”
Recreational sports offer a fun, supportive environment focused on skill development, sportsmanship, and community. These leagues also provide valuable playing time for athletes looking to stay active during the week, outside of their travel commitments. Many travel players use rec leagues to fine-tune their skills, play with friends, and enjoy a more relaxed competitive setting. Fall sports are scheduled during the week, and this helps maximize participation.
Benefits of Participating in Both:
-Increased Playing Time and skill development
-Opportunities to Lead and mentor newer players
-Community Connection through local teams and coaches
-Balanced Competition with a fun-first focus
Registration for the upcoming rec season is now open! Sports include baseball, softball, soccer, basketball, and more. For a full list of offerings and schedules, or assistance with registration, call us at 706-819-3968.
Let your child play more, grow more, and enjoy the best of both worlds — travel ball and rec sports!
