Deer Capital Lives Up To Its Name

The Jasper County Sheriffs Office (JCSO) responded to 16 traffic accidents during the period of November 5-12. Of these, 12 were deer related, making the animal(s) responsible for 75 percent of all the traffic accidents for this seven day period, and this is not even taking into account the accidents which went unreported.

In addition, on November 8 and on November 6, two different hunters reported their deer stands had been stolen in north Jasper County.

Also, during the same seven-day period as mentioned above, the JCSO reported the following arrests:

•Dean Gordon Duffee, 48, Conyers—probation violation.

•Patrick Lee Shumate, 45, Milledgeville — probation violation.

•William Lamar Cagle, 34, Conyers — probation violation.

•Dana Elliott Neill, 43, McDonough—Jasper County Superior Court failure to appear bench warrant.

•Jonathan Lee Maness, 18, Shady Dale — aggravated assault.

During this same period deputies with the JCSO responded to another 130 calls for service including 39 stopping suspicious person/vehicle, 11 alarm, nine mechanical breakdown, seven subject needs officer, five each livestock on road, theft by taking and juvenile complaint, four each pick up prisoner/subject and argument, three each dog disturbance, domestic, assist motorist, threatening/harassing calls and sex offender check.

Also, two each speeding auto, intoxicated driver, music/noise complaint, vandalism of property, checking location and abandoned vehicle, one each fight, courtesy ride, fire/brush, dead on arrival, road hazard, request DNR, sick, attempt to serve warrant, lost property and identity fraud/theft.

Also during this period the Monticello Police Department (MPD) reported the arrest of Marion Sands, 56, of Monticello, and charged him with duty of driver to stop at or return to scene of accident and license violation.

Officers with the MPD, during the period referenced above, responded to 45 calls for service including 13 stopping suspicious person/vehicle, five escort or convoy, three each alarm, accident and music/noise complaint, two each domestic, mechanical breakdown, crowd disbursement, vandalism of property and argument, one each fight, burglary, fire/brush, theft by taking, improperly parked vehicles, assault, lift invalid, subject needs officer, private property, trouble unknown, checking location and road hazard.

In addition, during the period referenced above, the Georgia State Patrol reported the arrest of Katherine Rodriguez, 27, of Monticello, and charged her with driving while license suspended or revoked.
