Cases Are Settled in Superior Court
Demarcus Sands was granted a $25,000 bond with conditions, pending trial on the charges of aggravated battery, aggravated assault and criminal gang activity in Jasper Superior Court Tuesday, with Judge E. Trenton Brown, III, presiding.
Five other cases involving violation of the terms and conditions of probation were processed with the following results:
Hakeel Norwood, who was on probation for the charge of forgery in the first degree in April 2012, and burglary in November 2011, was found to have violated his probation via the new charges of admitting to using marijuana, failure to get drug evaluation and curfew violation.
Mr. Norwood was sentenced to 180 days in the county jail suspended upon entry into a state detention center for 120 days, and upon release be returned to regular probation and to complete anger management treatment and outpatient drug treatment.
Christopher Rhey, who was on probation for the charge of statutory rape in March 2005, was found to have violated his probation via the new charges of possession of meth, curfew violation and failure to pay court ordered fines/fees. Mr. Rhey was sentenced to two years in the county jail and upon release be returned to regular probation supervision.

Jerry H. Brown, who was on probation for four counts of aggravated assault, criminal damage to property in the second degree, driving without a license, insurance fraud and giving false information in May, 2010, was found to have violated his probation via the new charges of criminal trespass and theft by taking.
Mr. Brown was sentenced to 60 days in the county jail with credit for time served since July 25, 2013, and to serve 30 hours of community service.
Teri Tyler, who was on probation for three counts of obstruction of officers and false report of a crime in July, 2012, was found to have violated her probation via the new charges of driving under the influence of alcohol, interference with government property, driving while license was suspended or revoked and seat belt violation.
These new offenses were committed while Ms. Tyler was out on a previous sentence awaiting a Residential Substance Abuse Treatment (RSAT) bed date. Ms. Tyler was sentenced to 180 days in the county jail suspended upon entry into RSAT, and upon release be returned to regular probation supervision.
Jerrell Fears, who was on probation for the charge of burglary in April, 2008, was found to have violated his probation via the new charges of theft by deception, theft by receiving stolen property and failure to report. Mr. Fears was sentenced to serve the balance of his probation period in the county jail.
Also, the court continued 17 other cases and processed seven civil cases.
In addition, Jasper County Magistrate Court convened last Friday, Nov. 8, with Judge Kenneth G. Jackson, presiding, during which the following actions were taken:
Michael Oneal Lyons was found guilty of three counts of disorderly conduct, and was sentenced to 50 days in the county jail with credit for time served since September 19, 2013.
Christopher Head had his probation revoked and ordered to serve 72 days in the county jail with credit for time served since October 18.
Tiffany Phillips failed to appear to answer the charge of noise violation, and a bench warrant was issued for her arrest.
