Clay Crushing Cougars Make Debut

The Piedmont Academy shotgun team—known as the Clay Crushing Cougars — competed for the first time Saturday, Oct. 19, at the Ocmulgee River Gun Club in Macon.

Throughout the day, 120 shooters fired 50 rounds of skeet and 100 rounds of sporting clays. Members of the varsity team who completed include Joseph Anderson, Britton Bailey, Payden Cantera, Anne Marie Hildebrant, James Marks, Mitch Marsh, Zach Mooney, Alex Perry, Zach Sanders, Morgan Tillman, Will Tillman, Malcom Tyler, Preston Tyler and Hunter Whiting.

Additional varsity members who were not able to attend include Mills Smith and Zach Whitwell.

The top shooters for Piedmont included Bailey (104), Whiting (100) and Marsh and Malcom Tyler (both at 93.)

As a team, Piedmont compiled 297 points.

Piedmont Clay Crushing Cougars practice at Charlie Elliot Wildlife Center. The team will compete again Saturday, Nov. 16, at Old Hudson Plantation in Sparta.

The JV Clay Crushing Cougars consist of Browning Benton, Owen Brady, Caleb Coffey, Garrett King, Kade Mitcham and Eli Waits.

Coaches are looking forward to an exciting season with the addition of this sport offered by Piedmont Academy. The team is directed by head coach Brian Marsh and assistants Loren Bailey, Alison Hildebrant and Stacy Waits.
