Mattie Mary Clemons Marks

Mattie Mary Clemons Marks, 91, died October 18 at Crawford Long Hospital. Funeral services were held October 26 at Griggs Chapel A.M.E. Church in Eatonton.

She was born March 2, 1922 to the late David and Annie Clemons. She was employed for many years in food services at Druid Hills High School and also worked as an in-home daycare provider.

Mrs. Marks was a devout member of Mt. Gilead Baptist Church in Atlanta where she served on the Mother’s Auxiliary Board.

She was married to Otis Marks, who preceded her in death along with a daughter, Lizzie Jean Marks. A granddaughter, Valerie Yvette Marshall and six siblings, Annie Marks, Magnolia Martin of Monticello, Johnnie Clemons, Eddie Clemons, David Clemons, and Frank Clemons, also preceded her in death.

Mrs. Marks enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She loved to cook, crochet, quilt, sew, gardening, and fishing.

Survivors include two daughters, Mattie Marshall of Columbus and Deborah Marks of Atlanta; two sisters, Ruth Stewart of Atlanta and Maudie Fears of Athens; grandchildren, Andrea Miller, Marlon Cray, Damon Marks, and Arielle Braggs; great-grandchildren, Tomanekka Irving, Marquis Miller, and Brianna Miller; two devoted nieces and God daughters and a number of other relatives, friends, and neighbors.

Smith and Sons Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
