Paper Prepares Special Sections

The Monticello News office, 237 West Washington Street, will be a busy place for the next couple weeks, as we put together our weekly editions of the paper, as well as a special Deer Festival for publication next week, and a veteran’s section for publication November 7. These are in addition to the regular paper, and will be inserted into the regular paper.

However, the Deer Festival section is also given out to all runners in the Deer Dash as well as to vendors and visitors to the Deer Festival. It’s handy to have because it includes a map of the new parade route, a map of vendor locations, a schedule of entertainment and lots more.

Advertisers may want to seize the opportunity to advertise in the Deer Festival section as it offers an opportunity for people who do not typically read The Monticello News to see their ad and learn about their business. The deadline for all submissions (except for deer killed over the weekend) is tomorrow, Oct. 25, at 5 p.m. This means advertisements, news articles, features, everything for the section, as we will be working on it over the weekend.

(We will gladly take photos of successful weekend kills on Monday.)

We can’t know everyone who wants to be included, so if your business, church, or civic group wants to be promoted in some way in the section, please contact us today or tomorrow. You can reach us at 706-468-6511, or by email to info@, advertising@, editor@ or news@themonticellonews.com.

The following week, for the veterans’ section, there are still a few sponsorships left. Those pages are filled with photos of veterans of all wars who are either Jasper County natives, live here now, or were added at some time since we began doing the feature. The News must collect enough money to cover its costs, and has set the price at $200 per page to do that. It is primarily a salute to those who served our country, and just the sponsoring group’s name is publicized.
