Sparky Wins Best of Show

Sparky, handled by his owner, Melanie Soulen, took the “best of show” award Saturday at the Tenth Annual Mutt Show sponsored by the Jasper County Humane Society.

Sparky also placed first with best trick, and second in both the obstacle course and the best personality categories.

All the fun took place Saturday morning on the Monticello Square.

In addition, before, during and after the competition, Dr. Jennifer Proctor held a rabies clinic, inoculating pets for $15 each.

Other award winners included Jojo, handled by Miae Harper, who placed first in obstacle course and was named most obedient, while coming in second for best trick.

Ben, handled by Courtney Guidry won the award for owner look-alike. River Rat, handled by Ann Murphy got the prize for best dressed. Penny, handled by Lynne Jordan was deemed to have the “best personality.”

Teal, handled by Tucker Chester placed second in most obedient, while Minpin, handled by Cissy Benton was second in the look-alike contest. Lily, who was shown by Betty Jean Jordan, placed second in the best dressed category.
