Dallas Card Wins Football Contest

Last week proved to be a tough contest week in The Monticello News football contest, as only seven people correctly guessed the winners in as many as 12 of the 15 games listed, and only one person correctly picked the winner of 13 contests listed.

Dallas Card, a middle school student and football player at Jasper County Middle School, was the lucky, or skilled winner. Young Mr. Card said it was skill that allowed him to get 13 right. He may be right…because out of nearly 200 entries, no one else could do it.

For his effort, Mr. Card collected a $25 prize from David Leach Pharm.D. at Monticello Drugs. Mr. Leach hails from Tennessee and is an avid Tennessee fan. He sponsors the contest every year, and gives the prize the week the Volunteers and Georgia Bulldogs meet, certain that one day the Volunters will be the winner of that match-up. He was proud of his team, even though it lost to Georgia Saturday. The Vols gave the Dawgs a run for their money, and played very well, even though Georgia prevailed, 34-31.

Players who had 12 right will have their names added to the grand prize honor roll (or another chance if already on the honor roll) for a chance at a premium four-ticket package to the Chick-Fil-A Bowl in Atlanta. They include Orlando Jones, Jr., Nelson Cullum, Tink Dover, Alex Pace, Veronica O’Brien, and Cathy Glow.

One more name will be on there this week too. Ted Colvard, a long-time contest player and previous winner, made the honor roll last week, but his name was mistakenly left off. Mr. Colvard immediately called it to our attention and we fixed it.

This week, contestants will have another chance to guess the winners of the 15 games listed, submit their entry by 5 p.m. tomorrow, Oct. 13, and one lucky winner will collect a $25 prize from Allen’s Auto Repair, sponsor of the week. Contest entry form and complete rules are on page 12.

Remember to write legibly; refer to the teams the way they are listed on the contest, and be sure to include your phone number.
