Last Friday, the Piedmont baseball team fell to Arlington 10-7 in a battle of Region 4-AA leaders.

The Cougars took an early lead but was not able to hold on for the win.

“We could have put ourselves in the driver’s seat with a win,” Camp said. “The umpires were not very good for either team’s pitchers. Both teams had to deal with some questionable calls. It’s always tough to go on the road and win against good teams.”

After the game, both Piedmont and Arlington were 7-1 in region play.

The game was tied 6-6 when Arlington scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. The Cougars scored one in the top of the seventh and had more runners on base but could not even the score.

Beggs worked the first five innings for Camp’s team before Andrews worked one inning. Beggs had six strikeouts in the contest.

Offensively, Partenza was 2-for-3 with two runs scored while Beggs was 2-for-4 with three RBI. Jared Smith finished 3-for-4 while Weatherly and Williams both had hits.

Andrews finished 1-for-3 with a run, two RBI, while Hunter Knox was 1-for-2. Tyler was 1-for-4 with with a run.

Piedmont will travel to Furtah Prep for another region contest Thursday at 2:30 p.m.

The junior varsity Cougars were swept by John Milledge in a Friday doubleheader 6-3, 6-5.

Camp said having a JV schedule this year has been of great benefit to his players.

“We are starting to score some more runs,” Camp said. “It’s not about wins and losses at this level. These are games so the players can get on the field and work at getting better.”
