Middle School Cougars Sweep Windsor

The Piedmont Academy Middle School baseball team swept a doubleheader against Windsor last week at home.

In a 10-6 win in the opener, Michael Edwards worked four innings allowing eight hits while striking out five. Wyatt Galloway worked two innings in relief and recorded two strikeouts.

At the plate, Galloway was 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI. He also stole two bases. Edwards was 2-for-2 with two runs, an RBI, two walks and two stolen bases.

Zach Mooney was 2-for-3 with two RBI, a walk and run scored while Tyler Mills was 1-for-2 with a double, two RBI and two walks.

Mack Brady had a 1-for-2 performance with a run and two walks with Joseph Anderson going 1-for-1 with two runs, an RBI and two walks. Owen Brady had an RBI and run scored.

In the second game, Piedmont took a 9-3 win as Jordan Pace, a sixth grader, earned the win working three innings. Pace allowed just two hits while striking out four.

Anderson also saw pitching work in relief.

Offensively, Pace was 1-for-1 with three RBI, two walks and a run scored while Mooney was 1-for-2 with a run and RBI. Talon Anglin was 1-for-1 with a run, RBI and walk with Nick Maynard going 1-for-1 with an RBI and run.

Also contributing were Payton Wallace (run, two walks), Danny Ramsdell (double, run), Zachary Spivey (two walks, run, RBI), Browning Benton (RBI, run), Kevin Davis (walk) and Gage Wilborn (walk, run.)

“We played real well in both games except for an inning in both contests,” said coach Dan Funt. “It was good to even our record in league play as well. I am glad to see our younger players recording a win as well. Overall, we played well and we need to keep it going into this week.”

The Middle School Cougars were scheduled to host Westfield Wednesday.
