Deputy Nabs Thief, Recovers Dirt Bike
A deputy with the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) was dispatched to a residence on County Line Road last week to investigate the alleged theft of a Suzuki custom dirt bike. After his investigation, not only did the deputy recover the stolen bike, but also arrested a juvenile whom he charged with theft by taking, and also with having prescription drugs not in original container and driving without a license.
The only other criminal incident reported by the JCSO for the past seven days was a burglary at a residence on Seven Islands Road where a DVD player was reported stolen.

•Howard Lee Stephens, 64, homeless—disorderly conduct.
•Ricky Sharod Cooper, 25, Monroe—driving while license suspended or revoked and giving false name or address to law enforcement.
•Scotty Eugene Whitehead, 45, Covington—theft by conversion.
•Joshua Ryan Shumate, 25, Monticello—probation violation.
•Michael Antonio Jordan, 36, Newborn—child support.
•Steven Kyle Camp, 18, Shady Dale—driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs and seat belt violation.
During this same period deputies with the JCSO responded to 288 calls for service including 152 stopping suspicious person/vehicle, 28 checking location, 14 subject needs officer, nine alarm, seven mechanical break down, six each accident and escort or convoy, five threatening or harassing calls, and four each prowler report, pickup prisoner/subject, juvenile complaint, discharge firearms and road hazard.
Also, three each livestock on road and argument, two each burglary, domestic, assist motorist, intoxicated driver, theft by taking, private property, trouble unknown, trespassing, abandoned vehicle and attempt to serve warrant, one each speeding auto, fire, wanted/stolen indicated, shortness of breath, unconscious, welfare check, four wheeler, entering auto, possible suicide, music/noise complaint, sick, 911 hang up and illegal dumping/littering.
The Monticello Police Department did not report any arrests during the period mentioned above, however they did respond to 47 calls for service including nine stopping suspicious person/vehicle, and six subject needs officer.
Also, five escort or convoy, three crowd disbursement, two each burglary, intoxicated driver and music/noise complaint, one each alarm, dog disturbance, assist motorist, accident, direct traffic, fire, theft by taking, wanted/stolen indicated, shortness of breath, unconscious, miscellaneous ems, assault, extra patrol, juvenile complaint, discharge firearms, vandalism of property, trespassing and persons refuse to leave.
