Piedmont Golf Begins Season with Four Wins
The Piedmont Academy golf team is off to a fast start this spring.
Coach Wes Tanner’s squad is 4-0 and is looking forward to a road match with Gatewood today, March 21, at 3 p.m.
“That match will be a great measuring stick to see how far we have come and to see where we need to get to,” Tanner said. “I am proud of the way the players have competed so far and if we continue to improve and fine tune some areas of the game, we have a chance to really compete in all of our matches.”
The Cougar golfers defeated Flint River 173-194 to open the season with Drew Collins firing a low round of 38. Piedmont also defeated John Milledge 170-225 as Collins was again low medalist. Tanner said P.J. Leonetti also had a strong match against John Milledge with a score of 42.
Collins had a round of 36 in a 167-169 win against Bethlehem Christian Academy. Branson Parish was second with a 37 while James Mark was a solid third with a score of 43.
In Tuesday’s first away match of the season, Piedmont struggled, Tanner said, but still posted a 181-192 win. Parish finished with a low score of 43.
