Middle School Cougars Earn Home Victory
Piedmont Academy’s Middle School baseball team had plenty of offense in a 14-0 win against Lake Oconee Academy last week at home.
Michael Edwards earned the win recording three strikeouts in limited work. Jordan Pace, Owen Brady, Mack Brady and Wyatt Galloway also saw time on the pitcher’s mound. Pace, Owen Brady and Mack Brady each had two strikeouts while Galloway recorded three.
It was also a balanced effort at the plate as Zach Mooney was 2-for-2 with an RBI and run scored while Talon Anglin doubled and scored a run.
Also contributing were Galloway (run, stolen base), Mack Brady (run, walk), Tyler Mills (walk, run), Edwards (1-for-1, two RBI, one stolen base, one run), Joseph Anderson (one run, walk), Danny Ramsdell (run), Gage Wilborn (RBI, run, walk), Payton Wallace (walk, RBI), Pace (double, RBI, run), Zachary Spivey (walk) and Caden Clark (walk, run).
Prior to Thursday’s win, the Middle School Cougars were swept by Tattnall Square 10-6 and 11-1.
“The Tattnall losses were tough,” said coach Dan Funt. “I felt like we could play well, and we started slowly. It was tough to recover. We battled back, so I give my players credit for that.”
In the 10-6 loss, Mooney was 2-for-4 at the plate with an RBI. Galloway was 2-for-4 with a run and RBI. He had stole three bases.
Ramsdell was 1-for-2 with a run, RBI and walk while Owen Brady drew two walks with a run and RBI. Edwards finished the game 1-for-3 with a run, RBI, walk and stolen base. Mack Brady scored a run and drew a walk while registering two stolen bases.
Galloway, Edwards and Mack Brady handled the pitching duties in the first half of the doubleheader.
In the second game against TSA, Pace and Owen Brady combined to work five innings. Ramsdell was 1-for-1 at the plate with an RBI while Pace walked and scored a run. Browning Benton drew two walks while Wilborn had one.
“The younger players are improving and we kept it close in game two until the last couple of innings,” Funt said. “We have Windsor and Westfield remaining in league play. I feel like we can beat both of them. We just have to come out and play well. Overall, the players are improving and I hope they continue to do that.”
The Middle School Cougars will travel to Eatonton Saturday to face Gatewood at 10 a.m.
