Diamond Cougars Dominate Furtah, Harvester Christian

Piedmont Academy remained undefeated in region play with a 15-0 win against Furtah Prep Tuesday at home.
The Cougars needed just three innings to record the victory and improve to 7-3 overall and 3-0 against region foes. Zach Beggs earned the win after working the first inning before Luke Andrews closed the door by working the final two innings recording five of his six outs by strikeout.
Coach Danny Camp said he was pleased that his team is off to such a strong start in region play.
At the plate, Piedmont batters put on an impressive display of offense in the three-inning win. Logan Partenza was 2-for-3 with three runs while Hunter Knox had a grand slam and finished the day 2-for-3 with three runs and six RBI.

Beggs was 2-for-2 at the plate, including a home run, with two runs scored and two RBI. Andrews was 1-for-2 with a run and three RBI while Jared Smith finished 2-for-2 with and three RBI.
Piedmont also defeated Harvester Christian 10-0 Monday in five innings, completing the game just in front of inclement weather.
Mac Brittain went all five innings for the Cougars with five strikeouts. He only allowed two hits.
“He threw a gem,” Camp said of Brittain’s performance.
At the plate. Andrews was 2-for-2 with two runs and an RBI. Knox was 1-for-3 with a run scored and RBI. Williams finished 1-for-3 and drove in three runs. Zack Wilson was 1-for-2 with a run and two RBI. Noah Quick was 1-for-1 with a run scored.
Prior to this week, the Diamond Cougars hosted Central Fellowship and Covenant Christian Saturday.
Piedmont fell to Central Fellowship 12-5 in its first game of the day before defeating Covenant 5-2.
Against Central Fellowship, Partenza, Beggs, Andrews, Cody Blackmon, Mike Weeatherly and Wilson helped lead the offense. On the mound, Andrews worked the first three innings before Jared Smith was called upon in relief. Alan Powell and Partenza also saw time handling the pitching duties.
In the contest with Covenant, Brittain earned the win after working four innings with four strikeouts. Brittan allowed just one hit. Williams worked the next innings before Malcom Tyler closed the door.
Partenza was 1-for-2 at the plate with two runs while Beggs was 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI. Mike Weatherly was 1-for-3 and drove in a run.
Piedmont’s busy week continues as the Cougars travel to Brandon Hall Friday for a 4 p.m. contest. The team will then step out of region play Saturday when it travels to Gatewood for a 2 p.m. contest.
