‘Canes Upset by Lamar and GMC

The Varsity ’Canes lost 14-0 to Lamar County Tuesday in five innings. Tony Shumate started on the mound for the ’Canes earning three strikeouts. He allowed five runs in three innings. Chris Cain came in as relief in the fourth and had a rough day allowing nine runs and striking out one.
Dustin Womack and Walt McMichael led the hitting going 2-2, followed by Aaron Newton, Chase Caron and Shumate each adding a hit.
Pat Clement, McMichael and Brelan Crowe all had a good day defensively.
They also lost 6-2 to GMC Saturday. Womack was on the mound for the ’Canes earning two strikeouts.
The hitting was led by Clement and Lane Thomas with two hits apiece. Also earning hits were McMichael, Womack, Crowe, Justin Bradley, Cain, Gonzales, and Tyler Mote. Thomas Deraney was the outstanding defensive player of the game.
The ’Canes are scheduled to play at Crawford Co., Friday March 22, at 5 p.m.; host Macon Co. Tuesday, March 26 at 5 p.m. and travel to Bleckley Co., next Thursday, March 28, at 5:30 p.m.
