The Lady Cougars were also without several key members who had prior non-soccer commitments. The coaches played several freshmen in the contest.
“To have so many players out, we were competitive,” coach Jake Landress said of the home opener for the Lady Cougars. “We played well against a very good team.”
Anna Martin scored the lone goal for Piedmont.
In Middle School action, the Lady Cougars tied Gatewood 2-2 last Thursday before falling to Mt. de Sales 6-0.
“They are getting better,” Landress said of the Middle School Lady Cougars.
“We have such a new team this year that it is often tough to keep pace at this point. We are still building our team chemistry. It is just something that will take time.”
Piedmont will travel to Trinity in Dublin Friday, March 15, for matches beginning at 4 p.m.
