L. B. Rice, Jr.
L. B. Rice, Jr., 85, of Monticello, died Tuesday, March 12, 2013.
He worked for Bibb Manufacturing for 25 years as a twister and overseer. After Bibb Manufacturing closed, he was employed by C & D Batteries, then owned and operated L. B. Rice, Jr. and Son Grocery for 15 years, and also worked briefly for the city of Porterdale.
Mr. Rice was a member and deacon of County Line Baptist Church and enjoyed riding horses, boating and fishing. He was especially proud of his only son, and he showed his love and pride by always saying, “that’s my boy!”
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lena Rice; parents, Luffler B. Rice, Sr. and Vinie Rice; grandson, Leslie Rice; sisters, Cassie Preston and Frances Harris.
Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Lewis and Kathey Rice of Monticello; step-children, Angela Croy, Jeff Lunsford both of Oxford; grandchildren, Tracy and Toney Bruce of Covington, Valerie Rice of Monticello; step-grandchildren, Scotty Croy of Covington, Daniella Croy of Oxford; six great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; sister, Doris Fuller of Covington; and special caregiver, Kathey Lee Preffer.
Funeral services will be held Friday, March 15, 2013, at 3 p.m. at the Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Road, in Covington, with Rev. Charles Roper and Pastor Kenneth Hawkins officiating. Interment will follow in Lawnwood Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home today, March 14, 2-4 and 6-8 p.m.
