Lady Cougars Lose in First Round of State

The Piedmont Academy Lady Cougars lost 46-36 to Frederica Academy in the opening round of the GISA Class AA state basketball tournament Wednesday.

In a game played at Middle Georgia College, the Lady Cougars led 9-8 after the first quarter but trailed 18-13 at halftime. Frederica held a 30-24 lead after the third quarter.

Hailey Burnham led Piedmont with 15 points while Heather Tyler scored 10. Lanie King added six points while Anna Jones scored three and Kacy Swart finished with two.

Mary Ellen Shuman led Frederica with 11 points while Hayden Squire and Brooke Bourne both scored 10. Nia Pressley added eight points.

The Lady Cougars conclude the 2012-2013 with a 15-13 overall record and finished as the Region 4-AA runner-up.
