Lady ’Canes Lose In First Round State

The Lady ’Canes lost 44-27 to the 1 seed Thomasville, Tuesday night in the first round of State playoffs.

They played a great aggressive game, “played hard,” and kept just within reach of number 1 in the state. “This was a well played game, and an emotional loss to end the season,” said Coach Dionka Davis.

Janee Chapman was the leading scorer for the Lady ’Canes with 15 points, C.J. Jackson with 7, Paissley Stewart added 3, Morgan Stokes and Alkeili Ross each added 1.

The Lady ’Canes lost two games and won one before beginning play for State.

Saturday, the Lady ’Canes lost to Northeast Macon 52-42.

The game remained close through the third period and in the fourth the ladies fell behind in the last minutes.

The scoring was led by Chapman with 16 points, Jackson had 11, Morgan Stokes added 10, Aaliyah Barnes and Tierra Whitlock each score 2 and Stewart added 1.

On Friday, the Lady ‘Canes were coming off of a win over rival Putnam and fell hard to Bleckley County, 73-36.

The Ladies had one of their worst games all season on both the offensive and defensive side of the ball and couldn’t make anything happen in their favor.

The scoring was led by Chapman with 15, Stewart with 14, Jackson added 5, and Morgan Stokes added 2.

The Lady ’Canes travelled to Macon County last Wednesday and won over Putnam 50-40 in Region Competition, with the win allowing them to advance to the State competition.

The game was one for the books. Putnam had beat the Lady Canes on their previous two regular season contests and the two teams stayed within six points of each other throughout most of the game.

The Ladies on both sides of the ball were aggressive on the floor. It wasn’t until five minutes to go in the fourth quarter that the Lady Canes played smart defense and made each shot count.

The Lady Canes were very successful at the free throw line, and made their well designed plays work in the end to bring home the win.

The scoring was led by Chapman with 17 points. Stewart, Morgan Stokes, and Barnes each added 8, Jackson scored 7 and Ross added 1. Whitlock was key under the goal with four rebounds.
