Cleon Bales

Cleon Bales, 93, died Friday, Feb. 15, 2013, at The Retreat Nursing Home.

Cleon Bales was born in Martinez, and was a long-time resident of Jasper County. He was married to the late Eloise Slocumb Bales.

Mr. Bales worked in the Civilian Conservation Corps during the Great Depression and then served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He retired from the Naval Ordnance Plant in Macon.

His memory is cherished by his children, Carol Sanders and Wayne Bales of Monticello, Marshall Bales of Albuquerque, New Mexico; Carlton Bales of Clinton, NC, and thirteen grandchildren and their families.

Three sisters, his son, Donald Bales, and one grandson preceded him in death.

A memorial service was held Monday, Feb. 18, 2013, at the Hillcrest Cemetery in Newton Grove, North Carolina. Ross Hayes officiated.

Jordan Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
