BUSY WEEKEND FOR PUBLIC SERVICE

Firefighters stayed busy last Friday with two structure fires on opposite ends of the county. The above, left picture shows a home on Bear Creek Point, owned by Lee and Lisa Simmons, that was fully involved in flames when firefighters arrived midday Sunday.

The cause of the fire was a wood heater inside the residence, according to Fire Chief Jarrett Slocumb. The home was occupied at the time of the fire, but no one was hurt. Stations 1, 6, 3, 4 and 5 all responded. The above right photo shows a home on Hicks Road, off of Hwy. 11 south that was also on fire when it was called in approx. 30 minutes after the fire in north Jasper Co.

The fire was reportedly cause by bad wiring in the kitchen, resulting in extensive smoke damage. Stations 3, and 4 responded to the call and Jones County was on hand for mutual aid. The above motor vehicle accident occurred Sunday afternoon on Turtle Cove Trailway at Bufflhead Ct.

The drivers were Susan Winderweedle of Clarkston and Mikayla Williams of Winder.

No further report was available from the Georgia State Patrol officer that worked the accident, at press time.
