Thurman Lee Whidby

Thurman Lee Whidby, 47, died January 26, 2013.

Mr. Whidby was born on December 16, 1965 to Ida L. Thomas and the late Robert Whidby, Sr. He was the youngest of seven children.

Mr. Whidby graduated from Jasper County High School in 1984. After graduating high school he was employed at Dexter Axle. He served in the United States Army and was honorably discharged.

He attended and joined Springfield Baptist Church and was united in matrimony to Rita Flower Whidby. From this union, four children were born. He was a very nice and friendly person and truly loved his family.

Mr. Whidby was preceded in death by a sister, Shirley L. Whidby Campbell.

Survivors, in addition to his mother and wife, include sons, Thurman Whidby Jr., Terrance Flower, and Billy Flower; three daughters, Ayla Whidby, DeAndrea Whidby, and Alexis Whidby, all of Phoenix, AZ; two brothers, Robert Whidby, Jr. and Glen Whidby; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Patricia and Robert Smith, Wendale and Willie Dennis, and Gloria Denise and Frank Jenkins, all of Monticello; three grand- children, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.

A thanksgiving and homegoing celebration is set for today, Jan. 31, 2013 at 11 a.m. at Springfield Missionary Baptist Church, 837 Hillsboro Street in Monticello, with Rev. Jimmy Horton officiating.

Smith and Sons Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
